Gov Okowa inaugurates 700-capacity hostel, other projects at Delta NYSC camp

- NYSC members posted to Delta state are currently in jubilant mood

- The state government has built a 700-capacity hostel in the NYSC camp located at Issele-Uku

- The government also built four blocks of twin 3-bedroom flats and commenced work on internal roads in the camp

The Delta government has built a 700-capacity hostel in the state's National Youth Service Corps located at Issele-Uku.

The governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa inaugurated the facility on Thursday, February 6, while assuring the NYSC management in Delta of his government's continuous support.

The governor had visited the camp in 2018 and expressed concerns over the poor state of the facility back then.

He expressed delight that the camp had begun to wear a look befitting a place where corps members spent time before being deployed to parts of the state for primary assignment.

His words: “These partnerships are in the best interest of our people and in the best interest of our state and here at Issele-Uku is the first point of call for members of the NYSC who are posted to Delta state.

“The graduates numbering thousands who are posted to Delta, apparently, will work in Delta state and will impact on the state and its people, so, it is only human that we make them comfortable to bring out their best to serve the state and our nation.”

Apart from the 700-capacity bed space hostel, the governor also inaugurated four blocks of twin 3-bedroom flats and several other projects.

Governor Okowa revealed that construction work will also commence on the internal roads in the camp, a multi-purpose hall and another hostel in the next few weeks.

Mrs Olutayo Samuel, state coordinator of NYSC, in her address, described Governor Okowa as someone who keeps to his promises.

Meanwhile, the Delta government on Tuesday, January 21 approved 11 new roads in the state for construction.

The state's commissioner for works, Chief James Auguye, made this known while briefing newsmen at the end of the Executive Council meeting in the capital, Asaba.

He disclosed that the approved roads needed urgent attention as the state government was desirous of utilizing the dry season to construct a lot of roads.
