Two South Korean fans have been compensated KSh 31,000 each for Cristiano Ronaldo’s no show in a friendly involving Juventus and the K-League All-Stars.
Fans showed up by their thousands in July 2019 to witness the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in action in Asia after his high profile move from Real Madrid.
In total, 60,000 supporters turned out at the Olympic Stadium hoping to see the man who has defined football for the last 10 years live.
But to the disappointment of many, Ronaldo did not make the match as he watched from the bench the entire 90 minutes.
Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri later justified the move to bench the 34-year old, saying he was struggling with muscle fatigue.
The fact that Ronaldo did not feature in the match meant many people left the stadium early in disappointment while the few that were left behind turned aganist Portugal’s all-time goal scorer.
Some went to the lengths of chanting the name “Messi” – Ronaldo’s arch rival over the years – during the match.
Months after the incident and two fans who sued the match organisers finally got some reprieve as they were handed quite the decent compensation.
According to Vincent Lee , a renown South Korean football editor, A district court in Incheon, west of Seoul, ordered the agency that organised the match to pay the two fans a total of $310.
The lawsuit filed alleged that organisers, The Fasta Inc, indicated Ronaldo would feature in the match for at last 45 minutes which was not the case.
