Odion Ighalo has revealed he agreed to take a pay cut in order to seal a dream move to Premier League side Manchester United.

The 30-year-old striker joined the Old Trafford dwellers on a January transfer deadline day after agreeing to terms with the Old Trafford outfits.

The AFCON Golden boot winner signed for the Premier League outfits till the end of the season, becoming the first football star from Nigeria to don United jersey.

United were reported to have paid a loan fee between £2 million and £4 million for Shanghai Shenhua.

The financial breakdown of the deal later emerged with reports claiming the Theatre of Dreams outfits agreed to pay a third of Ighalo’s wages during his time with them.

This means Ighalo agreed to be paid £100,000 a week, the third per cent of his staggering £300,000-a-week earning in China.

Lifting the lids on how the dream moved happened, the former Watford forward claimed he was desperate to join United despite huge interest from other top clubs.

"A few other clubs had shown interest, I said: 'Please, just pick United, if it's going to be possible,'' Ighalo said.

The sensational forward also revealed that he and his agent and the two clubs spent the night to get the deal done before the deadline.

"My agent wants to speak to you. United are coming for me, you have to make this happen.

"I told my agent 'this is what I want. I want to come here,'' Ighalo added, saying his agent warned he might get a pay cut of which he said yes.

Ighalo also disclosed when the deal was done, he quickly called his mum in Nigeria and she burst into tears of joy.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Odion Ighalo has described his Manchester United move as a dream come true after his unveiling at Old Trafford on Tuesday, February 4.

The obviously delighted striker could not curtail his feeling as he was given a special welcome to Old Trafford.
