- Odion Ighalo will wear jersey number 25 at Manchester United
- The same number Antonio Valencia wore before leaving Old Trafford in 2019
- Valencia wishes the Nigerian football star all the best at his new club
Former Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia has wished Nigerian star Odion Ighalo all the best at Old Trafford.
The 30-year-old striker joined the Red Devils on a six-month loan deal from Chinese League side Shanghai Shenhua on transfer deadline day.
Having passed medicals at the club, he was presented to the fans earlier this week and he will wear jersey number 25, which was last worn by the 34-year-old Ecuadorian star.
Valencia spent ten years at Man United after joining them from Wigan Athletic on a four year valued around £16 million.
He was brought in as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo who joined Real Madrid but ended up as a right-back before eventually leaving them in 2019.
The 34-year-old won nine major titles with United including two Premier Leagues and one Europa League titles.
Meanwhile, with Ighalo set to take over Valencia's number 25 at the Theater of Dreams, the Ecuadorian star the number has been special to him while wishing the Nigerian all the best.
He told the former Super Eagles star: "I always saw the number 25 as an opportunity to work beyond my dreams.
"It has been my inspiration and became my amulet. I wish you all the success now with this shirt brother!" he concluded.
The Nigerian star replied to the tweet saying: "Thanks brother," alongside a heart and a praying emoji.
United landed Ighalo as back up for Marcus Rashford who has been ruled out for close to three months or more.
His arrival will, however, give Solskjaer options upfront while Anthony Martial and Daniel James maintain their positions on the flank.
