- Senator Abaribe had asked Buhari to resign over insecurity in the country

- The group, however, said that Abaribe is working against Igbo presidency in 2023

Amid eulogy and commendation for the senator representing Abia South senatorial district at the Senate, Eyinnaya Abaribe, by many Nigerians, especially the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for calling for President Muhammadu Buhari's resignation, the Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo has come hard on the lawmaker.

Daily Trust reports that the group lambasted Senator Abaribe, accusing him of working against Igbo presidency in 2023.

Legit.ng gathered that the group in a statement signed by its secretary-general, Dimm Uche Okwukwu, distanced itself from Abaribe's call for President Buhari's resignation.

It also accused the senator of working for Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo’s presidential ambition, stressing that the senator was working against the interest of Ndi-Igbo for the presidential seat in 2023.

The statement read: “The senator who represents Abia South senatorial district at the Senate has lost touch with the aspirations of Ndi-Igbo having lost out in the power circle at the centre."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that a former senior special assistant to ex-vice president Namadi Sambo on media and publicity, Umar Sani, commended Abaribe for calling for the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari over the level of insecurity in Nigeria.

It was reported that Sani said the senator did the right thing for asking the president to step aside if he could not find a lasting solution to the senseless killings in the country.

He, however, said that President Buhari would not resign under any circumstance due to his antecedents, adding that apart from his military high handed stance on issues, his continuous competition for the office of the president and his eventual success should have humbled him.
