According to Essence, Whitney was inspired by Marvin Gaye and his 1983 rendition of the song.

She gave a cute and polite wave for the crowd in Florida and then went on to sing a song that would become Arista Records' fastest-selling single.

The singer was backed by the Florida Orchestra that was led by conductor Jahja Ling and did a phenomenal job at singing in a way that gives fans goosebumps and makes them grin to this day.
