- Edinson Cavani's current contract with PSG will expire at the end of the season
- The 32-year-old has been relegated to the bench since the arrival of Mauro Icardi
- The Dutchman wants his former club to add the forward to their attack
Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has urged his former club to sign out-of-favour Paris Saint Germaine Edinson Cavani at the end of the season.
The Red Devils recently signed Nigerian football star Odion Ighalo from Shanghai Shenhua on a six months loan deal which expires in June.
Regardless, they are still short-staffed upfront after the exit of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez - both who joined Inter Milan in the summer.
At the moment, Marcus Rashford is out injured while Mason Greenwood is not experienced enough to shoulder the club's responsibilities in the attack.
Metro UK, however, reports that the former Arsenal forward wants Man United to sign the Uruguay star, whose contract with PSG runs out with the current season.
The Old Trafford outfit attempted signing the 32-year-old last month but later settled down for the former Super Eagles star as back up for injured Rashford.
Chelsea were also linked with a move for the PSG star but the player prefers La Liga giants Atletico Madrid once he becomes a free agent.
The Dutchman spent three seasons at Man United scoring 58 goals and 21 assists in 105 appearances.
He was instrumental to the club winning their 20th Premier League title in 2013, and two years later he parted ways with the club.
Van Persie, while entertaining questions from a random Twitter user on Monday afternoon, said he would want the struggling EPL side to sign the player who would be available come summer.

Manchester United slipped to seventh on the table after their barren draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend.
And with their current position, a chance to qualify for European football next season is slim but the signing of Ighalo is expected to turn things around for them.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester United announced the signing of Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo for a six-month deal from the Chinese league side Shanghai Shenhua as the 30-year-old becomes the first Nigerian to sign and don the United jersey.
Ighalo completed a dream sensational EPL return after agreeing to terms with the Old Trafford outfits albeit without no option of purchase at the end of the season.
United were in desperate need of a striker who can fill the void for injured Marcus Rashford and Ighalo emerged on their transfer consideration list.
