Insecurity: Northern leaders declare support for Buhari, service chiefs

- Northern leaders under the aegis of the Arewa Consultative Forum have expressed their support for President Buhari and his security chiefs

Respected leaders in the north have thrown their weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari and his security chiefs.

The leaders under the aegis of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) gave their support in the wake of the criticisms of the Buhari administration over the growing security challenges.

They urged the president and the security chiefs to remain focused on their war against the Boko Haram insurgency and other security challenges rocking the country.

The northern leaders said it is surprising to call for President Buhari's resignation over the security challenges, noting that the president is working hard to restore peace to the country.

The ACF also rejected the call for the security chiefs to be fired, saying it was uncalled for and unpatriotic.

The secretary-general of the ACF, Anthony Sani, told Leadership newspaper that President Buhari has done considerably in improving the security until the recent renewed attacks.

Sani noted that President Buhari's performance on security partly earned the second term, adding that the security challenges shortly after his inauguration.

He called on Nigerians to unite against insecurity instead of engaging in acts that can lower the morale of the secruity chiefs.

In a similar development, a traditional ruler in Osun state, the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosin 11, has advised the National Assembly and Nigerians calling for the sack of the security chiefs to have a rethink.

Legit.ng reports that the monarch said the Nigerian security situation in the country called for holistic appraisal instead of quick-fix.

Olowu in a statement issued by his media office on Thursday, January 30, said the call seemed to be hasty and transferred aggression to the security chiefs who have sacrificed a lot to defend the territorial integrity and the internal security of the country.

Meanwhile, Senator Ali Ndume has cried out that the security situation in the northeastern part of the country is not getting better.

The senator representing Borno South in the upper legislative chamber lamented the renewed attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents, noting that the terrorists' activities have increased.

The senator said it was unfortunate that the attacks resurged just when people had started feeling relieved that the security situation was getting better.

Ndume called on President Buhari to do more to ensure he secures the lives and property of Nigerians.
