Okada ban: Police, riders clash in Ijora Olopa

- Police and riders have clashed in Ijora area of Lagos

- The clash is connected with the recent ban on okada and tricycles plying Lagos roads

- Meanwhile, Nigerians faulted the Lagos state government over the initiation

Following the ban on okada and tricycle from plying some Lagos roads, affected riders are currently clashing with men of Nigeran police in the Ijora Olopa area of the state.

According to GIDITRAFFIC, shooting was also recorded in the clash.

"Clash and shooting reportedly ongoing at Ijora Olopa area. Police with Okada and Keke riders. Pls avoid that route for now," the traffic watch media outfit wrote on its Twitter page.

In reaction to the update, Nigerians faulted the Lagos state government over the initiation.

According to TeniWealth, Nigerians should not honour a government that is placing a burden on them.

"This is it. We shouldn't honour government that isn't giving her citizenship anything good other than more burden. People should revolt," the Twitter user said.

Ernest in his reaction said Nigerians will one day react when they are pushed with their backs on the wall.

"With backs on the wall and crushing further inwards, the breaking point is near. How much more can the poor take before they start fighting back."

Going further, he noted that it was the people that caused poverty in the land that banned okada, a means of livelihood for the people.

"Yes because it is the people banning Okada riding as a means of survival are the ones that created the poverty that pushed people into Okada riding. Today they want to ban Okada without addressing the poverty they created, they want a Nigeria they can enjoy alone."

Recall that Legit.ng had reported that following the ban of okada and keke in some major roads in Lagos, some irate riders have attacked a Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) bus on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

The Okada riders who have continued plying the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in spite of the ban were seen picking stones and pelting the BRT bus around Ile-Zik end of the expressway.

Legit.ng reports that the BRT bus was behind a car which hit an Okada rider, causing a slight delay and roadblock around 8.07am on Monday, February 3.
