- The Federal Government has been asked to up its game in securing lives and property of Nigerians
- The appeal was made by the leadership of CAN at the end of the special three-days fasting and prayer
- CAN said Nigerians can no longer tolerate any more bloodshed
The Christain Association of Nigeria (CAN) on Sunday, February 2, said the country does not need any more bloodshed.
The president of the association, Reverend Samson Ayokunle, said that the Federal Government needs to protect its citizens and put an end to the insecurity and bloodshed in Nigeria.
Channels Television reports that Ayokunle while speaking at the end of a three-day special prayer and fasting for Nigeria, said the FG must up its game in securing lives and property of Nigerians.
Stating that the efforts of the Nigerian government are currently not enough, Ayokunle said public office holders cannot continue to play politics with Nigeria's security.
Ayokunle said: “They said they are trying but their best is not the best; daily bloodshed is happening and we cannot be playing politics with the lives of men and women, they have the right to live and when they are dying, we cannot keep quiet."
“We don’t want bloodshed in Nigeria again,” Ayokunle said.
He also said called on the security heads of the country to adopt a modern approach in fighting criminal activities across every region.
According to Auokunle, there is no reason why a victim will stay in the hands of kidnappers for days with rescue from the government.
“We want to urge the security chiefs, in this day of technology; there is no reason why anybody will be with kidnappers for more than three days because through technology that God has given us in the world today, we can monitor anyone anywhere by satellite and through other means," he said.
He further called all Nigerian politicians to quit playing politics with the lives of people.
“The essence of government is to rise up to such nonsense and bring an end to it; Nigerians are very tired, if anybody is telling the government that they are doing their best, that person is not telling the truth."
“He is playing politics with human life and if politicians are playing politics, we in the church cannot play politics, the moment we don’t see bloodshed again, we will begin to commend you,” he said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, had commended the general overseer of the Redeemed Christain Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for leading the prayer walk against the rising killings in the country.
Also, a former lawmaker in the eighth Senate, Shehu Sani, said that it is applaudable that Adeboye is now displaying active participation in the fight against the disturbing trend.
