Novak Djokovic has been crowned the Australian Open champion after beating Dominic Thiem 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 4-6 in the best of five sets.

The Serbian star has now won eight men's Australian single titles after labouring from 2-1 down to win the next two sets to emerge champion.

The 32-year-old defeated legendary Rodger Federer in the semis in straight sets while Thiem knocked out world number one Raphael Nadal in the last eight and Alexander Zerev in the semis.

Thiem is yet to win a Grand Slam title losing two finals to two of the best players in history Djokovic and Nadal.

The Austrian tennis star lost the first set but rallied back to win the next two sets to take the lead and put Djokovic in an uncomfortable position.

But the world number two got back into the match and and broke the world number seven on several occasions to level the set at 2-2.

The deciding set was keenly contested as Djokovic took the lead by 3-1 but Thiem fought back to 3-2, then the Serbian went up again grabbed the next two sets to serve for match point.

Thiem made it 5-4 but it was Novak who had the last laugh as he comfortably dispatched his opponent to be crowned eight-time Australian Open champion.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Asisat Oshoala was on song for Barcelona Ladies as they recorded a 3-0 win over Sevilla to stay unbeaten in the league.
