Liverpool extended their lead on the Premier League table with a resounding 4-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday, February 1, at Anfield Stadium.

Reds are now a few steps to history with whopping 73 points all thanks to Mohammed Salah's brace and each goal from the England duo of Jordan Henderson and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain.

Jurgen Klopp's men had a brilliant yet torrid start having failed to record a goal in the first half despite some bright efforts from Salah.

The first leg of the game finished with both sides failing to hit the net, though Danny Ings forced a good save from Alisson with a powerful effort while Firmino had a penalty call discarded.

Southampton out-smarted their hosts at Anfield with ten shots to Liverpool’s eight in the stoppage time.

Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain eventually broke the deadlock and handed Liverpool the lead of the encounter in the 47th minute with Firmino making the assist after finding Ox with a deft touch.

Henderson doubled the lead with less than twenty minutes in the second half, firing home after Firmino’s pull-back. The Brazilian grabbed his second assists of the game.

Liverpool continued their ruthless dominance with Firmino showing some attacking threats against the Saints.

Mo Salah scored in the 71st minute after a beautiful effort as the Egyptian finished with a deft touch from Henderson's pass.

Klopp made some changes which saw Chamberlain subbed for Keita two minutes after Mo Salah's goal with Minamino coming in for Wijnaldum in the 80th minute.

Jack Stephens was booked and Liverpool made good use of the situation as Salah found the back of the net again courtesy of Firmino who grabbed his third assist in the match.

Liverpool have now won 16 Premier Lague in a row and are up high above Manchester City on the EPL table.
