University of Connecticut women's basketball team has paid a tribute to Gianna Bryant - daughter of NBA legend Kobe after her untimely death.

The 13-year-old rising star was among the nine people that died in the ill-fated helicopter crash which occurred on Sunday.

Kobe revealed in 2018 that her daughter had dreamt of playing for the UConn after NBA Hall of Famer Reggie Miller persuaded the 41-year-old to send his daughter to the University of California.

"She is hellbent on UConn. Really," Bryant told Miller who was trying to poach the youngster for the UCLA.

However, her death definitely means she would not be able to accomplish one of her life goals when she attained the age.

After the incident, the University thought it wise to honour the youngster with their team's number two jersey.

They shared a post on their official Twitter handle with the caption: "Mambacita is forever a Husky,"

According to Rappler.com, Gianna, has developed a special relationship with Chicago Sky forward Gabby Williams.

The UConn alumna also took advantage of the Bryant's support for the collegiate women's basketball team to get closer to the family of the LA Lakers' legend.

Before the helicopter crash that claimed his life on Sunday, January 26, in Calabasas, California, Bryant had used the vast sporting experience he had accrued from the court to build a business empire valued at over $991 million.

Also, Lebron James has finally paid tribute to LA Lakers legend Kobe Bryant after the unfortunate death of the basketball legend.

Kobe was on courtside when Lebron surpassed his 33,643 points during a game with Philadelphia Sixers.

The basketball legend alongside eight others including his 13-year-old daughter perished in a helicopter crash.

The helicopter’s pilot was told by the traffic controller you’re too low moments before he crashed in thick fog on the west coast.
