3 Nigerians employ technology to provide roadside mechanic assistance

3 Nigerians employ technology to provide roadside mechanic assistance

- Technology-driven solutions have been provided to solve the challenges of cars breakdown in Lagos

- Two of the solutions, provided by Nigerians, make use of websites and mobile apps where motorists whose cars break down can request the services of mechanics and towing vehicle operators

- The third which also makes use of a functional website for booking is gender-centric as it prioritises providing quality automotive management services to females

Break down of cars on the roads, either due to flat tyres, dead batteries or other mechanical faults, is what nobody wishes for, especially Lagosians.

Apart from the stress involved in getting the cars fixed and the distortion of personal plans, cars breakdowns, especially at night or in the middle of lonely roads, expose motorists to danger from hoodlums and roadside robbers.

This enormous challenge has, however, now been taken care of by three Nigerians who have provided technology-driven solutions.

The first tech-driven solution was created by three young Nigerians who created a website where Lagasions can sign up to get access to what can be described as "mechanic and towing-vehicle hailing service".

The website provides a user with the opportunity to request the service of a mechanic who will show up and anywhere the car breaks down in Lagos and fix it.

If the car cannot be fixed on the spot, the website also has the feature to request the service of a towing vehicle which will convey the vehicle to wherever it will be fixed.

The second innovation created to address the challenge is also tech-based with a combination of website function and mobile app. It is also currently restricted to Lagos.

The mobile app connects motorists roadside assistance providers, including auto mechanics, within a 5 kilometres radius or more of the location.

The creators of the service said they will be rolling out their operations in other states soon.

The third amazing innovation is female-run auto service providers with a functional website which provides online booking features for potential clients.

The creators of the service came up with a gender-centric approach which prioritises women's welfare as far as automobile services are concerned.
