Popular Nigerian actress Toyin Abraham has expressed sadness over the court sentence given to Maryam Sanda, a woman who was found guilty of killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, over jealous rage.

Legit.ng reported that Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Sanda to death after she was found guilty of stabbing her husband with a broken bottle.

The court sentence was given on Monday, January 27. Sanda, who is a mother of one, attempted to run after the sentence was delivered.

Activist defends Maryam Sanda after she sentenced is to death for killing husband

The actress reacted to the court case on her Instagram page.

She shared a photo of the couple and an old video of them on their wedding day. She noted that they were once happy.

Abraham used the sad incident to advise people to let relationships go if it is not working for them. She said people would mock them but they should still leave.

The actress said she is heartbroken by what happened. She also begged people to leave and not care about what people will say about them.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Maryam Sanda was found guilty of stabbing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, to death. The court sentenced Maryam to death by hanging after being found guilty for stabbing her husband in a jealous rage.

Nigerians on social media reacted to the court’s verdict with an activist calling for justice for Maryam Sanda. The activist identified as Rahama declared that she stands with Maryam and she explained her reasons in a series of tweets.

Rahama said the woman was pushed to rage by her husband who cheated. She added that men can push women to extreme lengths. She also noted that the death sentence would leave Sanda's child orphaned.
