- An aide of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano is reporting that the treasurer of the emirate council in the state has been arrested
- The aide claims that the treasurer was arrested by the state's anti-graft agency for reportedly selling land illegally
- It is yet to be confirmed if the latest arrest is in relation to the rift between the governor and Emir Sanusi
Emerging reports from Kano suggests that the treasurer in the emirate council of the state has been arrested by an anti-corruption agency for alleged fraud.
A terse statement on Twitter by an aide of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje confirmed it.
"FLASH: The Kano anti-corruption agency has arrested the treasurer of Kano emirate council in relation to a plot of land sold illegally by the emirate council," the tweet stated.
At the time of this report, it was not clear if the arrest of the emirate's official is connected to the lingering friction between Ganduje and the emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Lamido II.
The friction, it was reported, recently culminated in the splitting of the Kano emirate into four.
For example, Legit.ng reported recently that Governor Ganduje on Sunday, July 7, said that the new additional four emirates in the state have come to stay.
The governor stated this when he paid a condolence visit to the emir of Rano, Alhaji (Dr) Tafida Abubakar (Autan Bawo), over the death of his son, Aliyu Tafida, who lived for 20 years.
Ganduje's first and second attempts were scuttled by the court.
In December 2019, the second attempt by Ganduje to create the four emirates from the original structure of the state's traditional council was dashed by a high court.
The report has said the court sitting in Kano and presided over by Justice Ahmed Badamosi ruled that the plan to create the new emirates must be stopped forthwith.
It said that the ruling was given on Tuesday, December 10, adding that the court further halted the governor's appointment of heads of the new emirates into the state's traditional council.
It was also reported how some members of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) recently started moves to ensure reconciliation between Ganduje and Emir Sanusi II.
The report stated that the forum was expected to lead top-notch leaders to have meetings with elders and Kano stakeholders over the crisis between the emir and the governor.
It also said that invitations had already been sent to some of the stakeholders ahead of the meeting which is scheduled to hold at the Tahir guest palace in Kano state.
