Amotekun: Northern Nigeria mulls own version with 'Operation Shege ka Fasa’

- What looks like Amotekun could be birthed in the northern part of Nigeria soon

- A group is making the demand while warning that all such security outfits must be backed by law

- The group laments the inability of the authorities to unite Nigeria and turn the country around positively

If things work out well in the north, the region may come up with its own version of Amotekun, a creation of governors in the south west for the protection of the people.

In the case of the north, the security set-upwill not be called Amotekun. It may be code-named 'Operation Shege ka Fasa'.

This is what the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) currently asking the governors in the region to consider as it announced its support for the south west's structure.

CNG noted that the northern region should be more concerned about the security problems that had enveloped the area for a long time.

Abdulazeez Suleiman, who spoke for the group, lamented that the north has been at the centre of a harsh security realities and other harmful conditions of living.

The Nation reports that Suleiman questioned the timing of Amotekun but urged that it operates according to the law.

He said his group understood the need for Nigerians to do the extra in securing themselves especially with the government failing to meet its constitutionally mandated responsibility.

He noted how Nigerians trusted Muhammadu Buhari to provide the needed security and further unite the country, but lamented that five years after, the challenges which forced the citizens to change their government in 2015 had continued.

He added that many Nigerian youth were losing hope in the country as a result of the persistent problems facing the country.
