Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has launched an attack on Italian League giants Inter Milan over their move for want-away star Christian Eriksen.

The Danish midfielder has been linked with a number of top European clubs including Manchester United.

But Inter appear to be leading the chase to land the influential midfielder with less than six months to the expiration of his contract.

Eriksen was not in the matchday squad for Spurs in their 1-1 draw against Southampton in their FA Cup fourth-round match at St. Mary's Stadium earlier today.

As a goal each from Heung-min Son and Sofiane Boufal saw the game ended in a stalemate - with a replay scheduled for early next month.

Meanwhile, the Portuguese manager has now taken a swipe at his former employers, saying their timing for the deal was wrong.

"Tottenham is the last one to blame for this situation," Mourinho said after the match.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager who hinted that Spurs will make Giovani lo Celso's loan move from Real Betis permanent this month added: "I just want to say that this situation shouldn't happen on 25 January.

"The only thing I can say is Eriksen, since I arrive, he is behaving in a very, very professional way, with me and the team. "But to be on 25 January in a situation like this is not nice."

According to BBC, the Danish star is looking for a fresh challenge and Inter Milan might be his next destination with Antonio Conte trying to build a formidable team for the Nerazzurri.

Eriksen has scored three goals and two assists across competitions so far this campaign but this appears to be his last with the north London club.

Lo Celso, on the other hand, joined Tottenham on loan last August with an option for a permanent deal once they are impressed with his services.

"I think the boy is earning the decision," said Mourinho. "He is making it an easy decision for the club to execute the options.

"Incredible evolution since I arrived. By himself he made the decision that the club is going to execute the option."

BBC reports that Lo Celso has seen more action under Mourinho, having made only a handful of appearances under previous boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Tottenham Hotspur bottled their chance to cruise to the next round of this year's FA Cup championship after allowing Southampton to score an equaliser just three minutes from time.

Spurs took the lead in the 58th minute with Heung-min Son breaking the deadlock with a superb goal from a close range.

An 87th-minute equaliser from Sofiane Boufal helped the Saints book a replay with the north Londoners early next month.
