After days of silence, the widow of the slain chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), in Adamawa, Reverend Lawan Andimi, has given a powerful statement concerning her husband.

The wife of late Andimi said that even in her pain, she is glad and grateful to God Almighty for the fact that her husband did not deny his faith at the point of death.

The widow lamented the poor security in the north and admitted that something drastic must be done as soon as possible.

She said: “This country is in bad shape right now because of insecurity. We can no longer go to farm; my younger brother was slain on his farm some years ago.

She called on the federal government to do its utmost so as to avoid a repeat of the sad incident by beefing up security in all parts of the country.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, under fire over his comments about CAN.

Adesina had said the Christian body speaks as if it is an opposition political party. This was in reaction to a statement by the association on the death of Lawan Andimi, CAN chairman of Michika local government in Adamawa state.

Andimi was killed on Monday after N800 million ransom allegedly demanded by the insurgents was not paid.

Following Andimi's death, the body had said Christians in the country have become endangered species, while also calling on President Muhammadu Buhari “to purge himself of the allegations of nepotism and religious favouritism by reconstituting the leadership of security outfits”.
