Akwa Ibom: APC withdraws from Saturday’s re-run election

- APC has withdrawn from Akwa Ibom rerun

- The party says it has no trust in INEC to conduct free and fair election

- Meanwhile, some Nigerians have called on INEC not to waste resources over the election

Following what it described as dissatisfaction with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state says it has withdrawn from the re-run election scheduled for Saturday.

This was disclosed in a press conference on Friday in Uyo by Ini Okopido.

Okopido who is the state chairman of the APC in the state blamed INEC for the withdrawal.

Meanwhile, Nigerians on social media have reacted to the withdrawal.

Benedict Cool: "They wasted millions of Naira on the court case, now they are running away from an election they claim they won earlier."

Usman Kayanta Aduku: "What is the need of conducting the poll since d major opponents will no participate?"

Ogumba Ikenna: "Akpabio is waiting for them at Supreme Court even if he did not participate in the rerun. Go ask hope Uzodinma of Imo how he did it? That's Nigeria for you."

Ejigbo Okai: "Akpabio can never win even councellorship's election again in his life time.Their governor has nailed him forever."

Johnson Chinonso Ofoegbu: "APC might just be withdrawing from the election to head towards supreme court for another magic o."

Akamo Damilare Dreycool: "Why did they go to the court at the first place.They will be twisting someone head."

Recall that Legit.ng had reported that Yekini Nabena accused Mike Igini of working for the PDP in the state.

Nabena who made the allegation while speaking to journalists on Thursday, January 23 in Abuja, stated that Igini's past antecedents have witnessed him compromise, manipulate and swing the 2019 elections conducted in the state in favour of the PDP.
