Lionel Messi's future with Barcelona seems to be diving into an ending note after his former teammate Javier Mascherano insisted the Argentine's Camp Nou exit is possible as some factors may demand with time.

Messi is moving toward the twilight of his career having spent all his entire football journey with the Spanish side since making his senior team debut over a decade ago, and his first goal coming against Albacete in 2004/05 campaign.

Mascherano, who played alongside the Argentine both at the club and national level, admitted 'anything is possible in football' as Messi could decide to call it quit with the Catalans any moment.

The former Liverpool star is currently seeing out his playing days with Estudiantes and he was of the view that his countryman could decide to end his career where he began it in his homeland.

"Anything can happen in the world of football and it depends on his desire to play in Argentina," Mascherano said.

"There's also the family aspect when he decides to live over here. These are personal issues and no one else can influence them.''

The 35-year-old former Barcelona star backed Messi to end his glistening career in Argentina, saying his presence will be a big boost for the league.

"If he decides to come here in the future, it'd be a huge jump in quality for our league and the country," ' Mascherano further suggested.
