Minimum wage: Sokoto govt approves N30,000 payment

- Sokoto state government, under Tambuwal-led administration, has approved the new national minimum wage

- The state's information commissioner, Galadanci, said the payment will commence by the end of the month of January

The Sokoto state government has reportedly joined the list of the few states that have approved the full implementation of the N30,000 national new minimum wage.

Leadership newspaper reports that Isah Bajini Galadanci who is the state's commissioner for information disclosed this.

The payment will start by the end of the month of January, the commissioner added.

Legit.ng notes that the announcement of the approval comes a few days after Governor Aminu Tambuwal's re-election was affirmed by the Supreme Court.

Legit.ng notes that social media users are already congratulating the workers in Sokoto state followed the government's announcement.

Igwe Nnanna Emmanuel Nnamdi posted on Facebook: "Congratulations to Sokoto state workers. I love this man. I don't know why right from the time he was speaker of the house of representative."

Another Facebook user, Christopher D Ladan JP, reacted: "Solidarity forever, better late than never."

For Comr Suleiman Hamza Suleiman, the announcement is "just the beginning. Work in progress."

In a related development, the governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni, on Thursday, January 16, approved the payment of the newly approved minimum wage for workers in the state.

The governor made the disclosure at an event which took place at the Yobe state Government House in Damaturu, the state capital.

Speaking on the new improvement, Buni said payment of the new N30,000 minimum wage to workers will commence in January 2020.

Similarly, Governor Godwin Obaseki has also approved the payment of N30,000 new minimum wage for Edo state's workers.
