Adamawa CAN chairman: Boko Haram members are not Muslims - MURIC

- The Boko Haram terrorists are simply not a part of Islam, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has claimed

- Ishaq Akintola, head of MURIC, says the murder of Lawan Andimi, a Christian clergy, is one that calls for more drastic action against the sect

- Akintola pleads for patience among Nigerians at this period

If there is one thing about the Boko Haram terrorist group currently causing security challenges in Nigeria, it is the fact that they are not categorised as part of the Islamic religion, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has claimed.

MURIC said what the sect members did with the killing of Lawan Andimi was, simply put, horrendous.

Until his abduction and eventual murder, Andimi was the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Michika local government area, Adamawa.

Ishaq Akintola, who heads MURIC, expressed sadness and said what the terrorists did to Andimi was not godly. In a statement issued and signed in Lagos on Wednesday, he said that anyone who kills innocent people does not represent Islam.

Why we could not save abducted pastor - CAN

We reiterate our earlier declaration that Boko Haram is not an Islamic group, rather it is a group of misled zealots," he said as he maintained that any organisation that does what Boko Haram does cannot be said to be Islamic.

Akintola pleaded with citizens of the country to come together in the fight against the insurgents, who he called evil.

He also pleaded with the Nigerian Armed Forces to ensure that the insurgents are eliminated.

Our hearts are heavy as we remember the bereaved family. But we are assured in the global reach of God’s divine umbrella," he said while praying that God should strengthen the family of the deceased at this period.

Akintola also condoled with CAN over the loss as he added that only patience at such a time had kept Nigeria strong.
