Sergio Aguero needed just five minutes after his introduction to fire Manchester City to 1-0 win over Sheffield United at the Bramall Lane.

Despite grabbing two goals in their last game against Crystal Palace last weekend, the Argentine started their midweek encounter from the bench.

However, he was brought on to replace Gabriel Jesus in the 68th minute and barely five minutes after, he handed the visitors the crucial win.

The victory has helped them to reduce Liverpool's point on the log to 13 points pending their next league game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday.

Earlier on in the game, Riyad Mahrez won a penalty for Manchester City in the 35th minute after dribbling past three Sheffield defenders but Gabriel Jesus failed to convert the spot-kick.

Dean Henderson was under no immense pressure to save the Brazilian's poor kick from crossing his goal to keep his side int he game.

Moments before that, Nicolas Otamendi produced a brilliant effort after trying to give the visitors the lead through his overhead kick but the keeper was in the right place to stop the ball.

Meanwhile, all other efforts from both sides failed to materialise as the visitors ran off with maximum points away from home.

Although, the hosts had their only goal of the game chopped off by the Video Assistant Referee after Lys Mousset was caught offside.

City's next league game is against Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Stadium at the north London club's Stadium early next month.
