Forfeited houses: Saraki says EFCC is trying to scandalise him

Bukola Saraki, a former Senate president, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of trying to scandalise him by seeking the forfeiture of his houses in Ilorin

Saraki made the accusation on Tuesday, January 21, when the Federal High Court in Lagos entertained a suit filed by the EFCC seeking the forfeiture Saraki’s houses in Ilorin, The Nation reports.

He described the suit by the anti-graft agency as an abuse of court process, noting that the EFCC was merely attempting to review in another court, a previous verdict of the Supreme Court which cleared him.

The politician argued that the Supreme Court judgment had discharged him from culpability arising from the same money and houses which are the subject matter of this action and urged the court to dismiss the suit.

The trial judge Justice Aikawa adjourned the case to February 5 to take arguments on Saraki’s objection.

Meanwhile, a group, Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum (ACIF) has revealed its plans to it approach a court in order to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest and prosecute former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Professor Nelson Brambaifa.

The group also vowed to complement the legal move with protests to occupy the EFCC headquarters in Abuja as well as the presidency at the expiration of its seven days ultimatum.

The seven-days ultimatum is coming on the heels of a petition to the EFCC, signed by Comrade Prince Kpokpogri and Comrade Adediran Raymond, chairman and secretary of the group respectively dated Thursday, December 16, 2019.
