Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted that except for Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, every other player must defend.

The German-born tactician helped the Reds clinch their sixth Champions League title last season having gone over ten years without silverware.

Klopp admitted that he is not against any player expressing himself on the pitch, but his players must not allow their greatness get into their heads.

The 52-year-old former Borussia Dortmund handler told BeIN Sport: "You have to show respect to the team, the more you show me you are more important than the team, then there is the problem.

"Can I solve it in a short time, I'm not sure but I know I can solve it in the long run, then you are not part of the team anymore because that makes no sense.

"I want a self-confidence player and I want a player who can really express himself on the pitch and some time, you have to be selfish, especially striker.

"Go for it, try to score, that is completely fine but at the moment, you misunderstand the situation that you are more important, that will be more problems.

"Everybody knows that in our team, you have to be self-confident but when it gets into your head.

"As long as you are Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, you have to be a footballer, as long as you are not Ronaldo or Messi, you have to defend."
