EFCC arraigns Mama Boko Haram, 2 others for conspiracy, cheating

- The chief executive officer of a Nigerian-based non-governmental organisation, Complete Care Foundation Aisha Wakil has been arraigned by the EFCC

- Aisha popularly referred to as Mama Boko Haram was arraigned alongside two others before a Maiduguri High Court

- The trio have been accused of conspiring to defraud and collecting money under false pretence

Nigeria's top anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, January 20, arraigned Aisha Wakil before a High Court in Maiduguri, Borno state capital city.

The first accused person, Aisha Wakil, is popularly known as Mama Boko Haram.

Mama Boko Haram is the chief executive officer of Complete Care and Aid Foundation a non-governmental organisation based in the northeast region of Nigeria.

She was arraigned alongside two others - Tahiru Alhaji Saidu Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyade.

Saidu and Lawal are both the programme manager and country director of the NGO respectively.

They were all arraigned on a 5-count charge of conspiracy and cheating before the court.

Daily Trust reports that the trio and one Saidu Mukhtar - who is at large - were alleged to have conspired to obtain money under false pretence from one Mohammed Umar Mohammed of Nyeuro International Limited.

The defendants were all alleged to have collected the sum of N45 million between the month of June and August 2018, with an intent to commit fraud against the provisions of Section 1(1) (b) of the Advanced Fee Fraud Act.

The defendants were also accused of intending to defraud N1.65 million from the same Mohammed under “the false pretence” of executing a contract.

According to the prosecutor, the accused were expected to deliver 3000 bags of 50kg white beans worth N65 million under a “false” contract.

Having heard the allegations read to them before Justice Aisha Kumalia, the trio pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The judge, having listened to the parties, adjourned the matter to February 10, 11 and 12, for the commencement of trial.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Mama Boko Haram was first arraigned on Wednesday, December 4, by the EFCC.

It was gathered that Ali Tijjani, the managing director of AMTMAT Global Ventures in a petition alleged that Complete Care and Aids Foundation had refused to make payment for a delivered order.
