Only one of the 10 nominees for Best Actor/Actress is for the 2020 Oscar is Black and the only person is British-Nigerian actress Cynthia Erivo.

Erivo who recently turned 33 has been nominated for her role as Harriet Tubman in Harriet and best original song for co-writing and performing the film's number Stand Up, at the 92nd Annual Academy Awards.

Since 2012, only five Black actors (including Erivo) have made the best actor, best actress nomination. Denzel Washington got two nominations within this time frame.

Peradventure Erivo wins in one of the categories she was nominated, she will emerge as the 16th person to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony award (EGOT).

The British actress won the best actress category at the 2016 Tony Award for her role in the movie, The Color Purple. In 2017, she won a Grammy in the best musical theatre album category for the same role.

Also in 2017, she won a Daytime Emmy Award for her role on Today alongside her The Color Purple castmates.

If she eventually wins at the Oscars on February 9, Erivo will join the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Audrey Hepburn as they have all won all four trophies required to be an EGOT receiver. With Oscars in her kitty, she will be the youngest actor to emerge an EGOT.

The actress' full name is Cynthia Chinasaokwu O. Erivo.

Recall that Legit.ng reported that British-Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress, Cynthia Erivo, won the Breakout Actress for her role in the movie Harriet during the 23rd annual Hollywood Film Awards. The award ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills on Sunday, November 3.
