Buba Galadima says Buhari has no right to call INEC chairman for meeting

Buba Galadima, a former member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari for holding a meeting with the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The politician told Channels TV on Sunday, January 19, that the president has no right to call the chairman of INEC into his house for a meeting, except for the purpose of compromising him.

Galadima said in other countries rulers do not meet the electoral commission privately for any reason.

"Let any of them, elites, tell me when the Prime Minister or Chancellor or the President of America ever invited the Chairman of the Electoral Commission to his house and they were seen dining either in private or in secret,” he said

He also questioned why the chief justice of Nigeria should go to the Villa, warning that the judiciary might plunge the country into crisis.

"The judiciary should know that they owe it a duty to the people of Nigeria, that they do not also only do justice, but justice must be seen to be done whether it is Buba Galadima's father that is affected," Galadima said.

In another report, Galadima predicted that the fate that befell Emeka Ihedioha in Imo recently could hit governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje, soon at the Supreme Court.

The politician said when he compared the election situation that got Ihedioha thrown out of the seat with what happened in Kano state during the governorship poll.

Meanwhile, Festus Keyamo, the minister of state for labour and productivity has faulted the plan by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to protest over the Supreme Court judgment that nullified the election of Emeka Ihedioha as governor of Imo state.

Keyamo in a tweet on Saturday, January 18, said the scheduled protest by the PDP implies that the party does not expect to lose any case.

He stated that the PDP’s idea of justice was expecting the All Progressives Congress (APC) to lose.
