El-rufai launches 1,000 milk farm project in Kaduna

- The governor of Kaduna state has launched a 1,000 milk farm project in the state

- The governor said the project was designed to have facilities like schools, police post and primary health centres stores and market

- According to El-Rufai, the project will help Nigeria produce high-quality milk and reduce over-reliance on imported dairy products

The Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Friday, January 17, launched a 1,000 milk farm project - a joint venture between the state government, ArDanish dairy giant Arla and Miyyetti Allah cattle breeders association of Nigeria - in Damau village of Kubau local government area of Kaduna.

Speaking of the new launch, El-Rufai said the project will help Nigeria produce high-quality milk and reduce over-reliance on imported dairy products.

Describing the launch as a sustainable solution to security challenges which accompany the nomadic livestock production, El-Rufai said the project was designed to have facilities like schools, police post and primary health centres stores and market.

He also said the project is a public-private partnership which will provide solar power and water for the farms.

El-Rufai said: “With 2,800 cows per district making 14,000 across the five districts while each livestock farmer will have 5hcs of land complete with a farmhouse, cattle shade and irrigated land."

Further making explanations on the project, El-Rufai said the Kaduna state government already signed an MOU on September 9, 2019, with Arlan food to transform the livestock sector in the state.

He said both parties agreed to transform the livestock sector of the state through an unparalleled commitment to changing regular livestock culture to business

“The Damau farm will be open to every Kaduna state resident, people of any ethnicity and religion to apply and make a living from livestock farming," El-Rufai said.

“In the near future, we envisage the emergence of yoghurt, water and livestock, cheese and meat production," he added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor El-Rufai had said that only God knows who will succeed him as governor of Kaduna state in 2023.

The governor also warned that he might hand over leadership of the state to a female governor contrary to suggestions made by people in various sections of the media.
