“The commission on Thursday arrested the clerk of Benue House of Assembly, Torese Agena, for an alleged case of fraud, stealing and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of over two hundred and twenty million Naira (N220,000,000)," the statement read in part.
It also accused Agena's wife Terngu and her daughters Terfa – Mamadu Ngweavese and Agena Suur of attacking two mobile policemen who were on duty at the EFCC’s zonal office in Makurdi where the suspect was being held.
The ladies were said to have also bitten a third policeman on his left arm and further tried to run over another officer with their car while trying to escape.
EFCC said Agena is presently in detention because it has a valid court warrant from the federal high court, Makurdi to hold him for trial.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Legit.ng reported that Shehu Sani, a former Senator from Kaduna state, claimed that the EFCC connived with his accuser to frame him for alleged extortion.
The former lawmaker, in a statement on Monday, January 13, from detention, alleged that the statement against him was purposely crafted, concocted and packaged by the anti-graft agency connivance with his accuser.
He challenged the EFCC and his accuser to make public any evidence in the form of audio, video, cheque, draft or money transfer to back up the allegations against him.
