Power supply restored after collapse of national grid

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disclosed that the national grid has been restored after a system collapse on Thursday, January 16.

Ndidi Mbah, the general manager, TCN's public affairs department, disclosed that the fault on the power grid was restored on Friday, January 17, The Nation newspaper reports.

“Full restoration of the grid was achieved at 2:19am today (Friday),” Mbah, said.

The TCN explained that the initial disturbance of the grid was a partial collapse of the system.

The electricity company stated that during the partial collapse, the grid was still supplying power to Port-Harcourt, Aba, Omoku, Yenegoa, Afam, among others.

The company said shortly after the grid collapsed, it immediately began the process of fixing the problem.

“Effort immediately commenced to synchronise other parts of the network but as restoration reached an advanced stage, the situation suddenly degenerated into a collapse of the nation’s grid,” Mbah explained.

“Full restoration of the grid re-commenced immediately after the incident and by 10 pm yesterday, most parts of the nation had been reconnected to the grid. At 2:19 am, however, the grid was fully restored.”

Legit.ng had reported that Nigeria on Thursday, January 16, recorded its first power collapse for the year 2020 after the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) disclosed that there was a system failure at the national grid.

The national power outage, which was confirmed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, was reported to have occurred around 12.37 pm.

The company in a message to customers explained that the outage was caused by system disturbance on the national grid and assured the public that power would be restored as soon as available.
