- Joao Cancelo could be joining Tottenham before this transfer window closes
- The Portuguese defender has been declared surplus to requirement at the Etihad Stadium
- Cancelo joined the Citizens last summer but failed to impress Guardiola
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly shown interest in signing out-of-favour Manchester City star Joao Cancelo this winter.
The 25-year-old defender joined the Citizens on a six-year deal valued around €65 million last summer but has failed to impress his employers six months down the lane.
According to SunSport quoting El Desmarque, Jose Mourinho wants to bring his countryman to the north London club to fortify his backline.
The publication further reports that the Spurs boss has reached out to the former Juventus player in a bid to secure his signature.
With Cancelo looking for more playing time, joining Tottenham will not be an issue for the Portugal international.
The former Valencia star has been playing second fiddle to English football star Kyle Walker in Pep Guardiola's team since he joined them last August.
He has made 18 appearances for the EPL defending champions across competitions so far this season - starting 13 and playing at both right-back and left-back.
Having signed Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes on an initial 18-month loan, Cancelo could become Mourinho's second acquisition this winter.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager is looking to bring in new players in the right-back position due to Serge Aurier's struggles.
