Uzodinma: Nigerians advise Imo governor not to prioritise predecessors' probe - Poll

- Nigerians, in a new poll by, wants Governor Hope Uzodinma to prioritise development of Imo state instead of focusing on probing his predecessors

- Uzodinma had, immediately after being sworn in, directed that the tenures of his predecessors be investigated

- Majority of the respondents in the poll, however, advised the Imo governor to first focus on good governance as some claimed that probing may be a waste of time and resources

Hope Uzodinma has been sworn-in as the sixth governor of Imo state, following the removal of Emeka Ihedioha as the state governor by Supreme Court.

In his first official address after being sworn-in, Uzodinma issued a directive asking for the probe of the tenures of his predecessors.

Those whose tenures are affected as a result of the order include Ikedi Ohakim, his (Ohakim's) successor, Rochas Okorocha and Emeka Ihedioha, who until recently was in charge of the government in the state.

Should this be the priority of the new Imo state governor? conducted a poll on social media, Facebook and Twitter, asking Nigerians what they think Governor Uzodinma should prioritise as he assumes office.

Asked if Governor Uzodinma's first task should be to probe his predecessors, 72% of the respondents voted in the negative. Only 28% of the respondents expressed their support for Uzodinma to prioritise probing the past governors.

Also on Twitter, 64% of the respondents advised Uzodinma to first focus on bringing development to the state rather than prioritising probing his predecessors.

Nonetheless, 13% of the participants agreed that his first task should be to investigate the past tenures while 7% voted no.

Earlier, reported that a former governor of Imo state, Senator Rochas Okorocha, reacted to the order issued by Governor Uzodinma, asking for the tenures of his predecessors to be probed.

Reacting to Governor Uzodinma’s directive via a tweet on Thursday, January 16, Senator Okorocha said he has nothing against being investigated.

The Imo West senator, however, noted that he strongly stands against abusing power to intimidate any of his supporters. ( - We have upgraded to serve you better.
