An officer of the Nigeria Police in Kaduna state have arrested a soldier of the Nigerian Army, for allegedly killing a show seller in Shaikh Gumi Central Market.
Daily Trust reports that there was pandemonium at the market when the soldier stabbed and killed the shoe seller after an argument with him.
Witnesses said after the act by the soldier, angry youths in the area beat him up and seriously injured
The victim of the incident who was simply identified as Yusuf resided at unguwar Sunusi a suburb of the state metropolis before his demise.
One of the eye witnesses said the soldiers only survived the attack by the youths because he was rescued by some vigilantes before the arrival of the police.
“It was a soldier that stabbed and killed a shoe seller on the chest with a knife after an argument and other youths around also attacked and seriously injured the soldier on the head before he was rescued,” the witness said.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Kaduna state Police command, DSP Yakubu Sabo, said the Army personnel has been arrested by the force and placed in Police custody.
Sabo said the suspect was unconscious before the police took him to hospital, while his other accomplices were at large.
“The police took him to the hospital because he was unconscious. So he is presently under police custody while our men are after the remaining three of his friends," Sabo said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the police in Kwara had arrested and detained a notorious kidnap kingpin.
The suspects was said to have been fond of causing havoc in Katsina and running to the state for hiding.
The commissioner of police in Kwara, Kayode Egbetokun, said that the command also arrested and prosecuted not less than 275 other criminals who major in armed robbery and kidnapping.
