Buhari meets Nigeria’s service chiefs behind closed doors

- Hours before travelling to the United Kingdom, President Muhammadu Buhari is meeting Nigeria's service chiefs

- It is not known yet if the meeting is the normal routine one that the service chiefs hold with the president or it is something more

- The meeting comes 17 days after the military chiefs met with Buhari in Aso Rock

Reports indicate that President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigeria's service chiefs are holding a closed-door meeting inside Aso Rock, the seat of power in Abuja.

The president is said to be meeting with the top security officers of the country as he prepares to travel to London, according to a report by Vanguard.

Buhari is heading to London for the inaugural UK-Africa investment summit.

The report, however, notes that the meeting could be a routine one which affords the service chiefs an opportunity to brief the president on the security state of the country.

Legit.ng reports that the meeting is holding 17 days after the president met with the service chiefs inside Aso Rock.

The meeting, which held in December, was also aimed at helping the president receive security briefings from the service chiefs including the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

The service chiefs were led to that meeting by the minister of defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (retd).

The military officers at the previous meeting included the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Air Staff (COAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar; the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Ibok Ekwe Ibas.

Meanwhile, Ali Ndume, a senator from Borno state, recently gave reasons President Muhammadu Buhari cannot afford to change or appoint new service chiefs in Nigeria for the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Police.

Ndume, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, said this in an interview with This Day newspaper.
