Disaster as 3-storey building collapses in Lagos

- There was confusion at a populated area of Lagos on Friday, January 17, when a three-storey building collapsed, trapping a man in the rubbles

- Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, head of the state's emergency agency, confirmed the incident

- Emergency workers later rescued the man and transferred him to the hospital

There was chaos in the morning of Friday, January 17, in Lagos when a three-storey building collapsed.

The building, it was learned, is located at the popular Ago Palace way area of the metropolitan state, which is known as the economic hub of Nigeria.

The Nation reports that the incident was confirmed by the government through the director-general of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

He said a man, who is yet to be identified, got trapped in the rubble and that his men were carrying out rescue efforts.

Oke-Osanyintolu disclosed that the building was still under construction and was about being completed before it collapsed.

The LASEMA boss further disclosed that the impact of the incident affected houses close to the building.

He said the remaining part of the building would be demolished once the rescue efforts are completed.

Update: Information made available to Legit.ng is that the trapped man has been rescued by LASEMA officials, who immediately administered first aid on him.

He was, thereafter, transferred to the hospital.

Oke-Osanyintolu said rescue efforts were continuing.

Legit.ng reports how some residents of a part of the highly populated Ojuelegba area of Lagos narrowly escaped as a two-storey building collapsed late Thursday, October 24.

The building, it was reported, collapsed at 8.55 pm just 12 days after a similar occurrence involving a three-storey building at Magodo Phase 1 in the state.
