James Ibori, former governor of Delta state is facing a fresh hearing in the United Kingdom and this could lead the court asking that he returns £117 million he allegedly looted while in office.

Ibori left the UK jail in December 2016 after he was sentenced to 13 years for alleged corruption in 2012.

Metro reports that Ibori is currently facing a 'proceeds of crime hearing at Southwark Crown court'.

Jonathan Kinnear, the prosecutor in the case, is quoted as noting that just after his election as governor of Delta state, Ibori suddenly became the owner of a huge sum of money and that there is evidence to back this claim.

According to him, Ibori's wealth comes without an explanation concerning its source and this raises questions as to alleged corruption against him.

The prosecutor alleges that Ibori used different people to carry out deals and that this included his wife, Theresa, a mistress, Onuigbo, and one of his sisters, Christine Christine Ibori-Idie, who also faced jail terms.

Legit.ng reports that Ibori, months ago, took the UK to the European court of human rights in Strasbourg in France to appeal the conviction against him by a London court.
