Nine police officers have been charged with theft and neglect of duty at Jinja Central Police Station, Uganda, following the theft a 40-inch plasma TV at the station’s reception on Monday, January 13.
The suspects include the duty officer at the rank of assistant superintendent of police, a sergeant, five corporals, one detective constable and a special police constable.

Kiira region police spokesman Diana Nandawula confirmed the charges saying the officers were on duty at the time of the incident according to a report by Daily Monitor on Wednesday, January 15.
"Investigations into the matter have commenced and more updates on the progress will be availed," she said.

The 40-inch plasma screen that was given to the law-enforcement agency by Startimes Company last month was plucked off the wall adjacent to the reception that is usually manned by at least three officers who operate in shifts.
“The TV was given to us last month by Startimes and it was fitted directly opposite the reception; unfortunately, it has been stolen and we don't know who took it," an officer who spoke in condition of anonymity said.
