Former Barcelona star Xavi has confirmed that he was approached by reigning Spanish champions to replace Ernesto Valverde who was recently sacked.
Despite the Catalans topping the Spanish La Liga, the club's chiefs asked Valverde to leave on Monday, January 13, and was replaced with Quique Setien.
Barcelona board were said to be livid with the club's defeat against Atletico Madrid in the semifinal of the Super Cup where Diego Simeone's side came back from 2-1 down to win.
Xavi who won back-to-back league titles at Camp Nou stated that he rejected the chance to coach Barcelona because he feels it will be too soon for him to handle such position.
"It's true that I received an offer from Barcelona. Barcelona directors Éric Abidal and Óscar Grau made the offer, but I didn't accept it.
"I felt it was too soon for me to coach Barcelona.
"But that doesn't mean it's not still my dream to coach Barcelona one day,''. Xavi explained according to the report on UK Mirror.
Meanwhile, Quique Setien's first job in charge of Barcelona will be an encounter against Granada on Saturday, January 18.
