President Buhari unveils women centre, makes 2 promises to Nigerians

- The president said with the establishment of the ministry, education for the girl-child is ensured and the era of child marriage is over

The year 2020 will probably be one of the best years in the history of Nigeria for the female gender as President Muhammadu Buhari has unveiled the Ministry of Women Affairs in Abuja on Thursday, January 16.

President Buhari said that his administration will not relent in its efforts to effect social inclusion and economic sustenance policies so as to achieve widespread economic growth and prosperity.

Among the promises the president made in Abuja on Thursday during the unveiling ceremony is the education of the girl-child in Nigeria.

To this effect, the president said: "In particular, we are laying great emphasis on the education of the girl– child. The high level of young girls who are out of school or unable to complete school due to socio-economic pressures is disturbing and must be addressed."

Moreover, the president assured Nigerian female folks that the era of early marriage for young girls is over under his administration.

He stated: ‘‘The launch of the national strategy to end child marriage, 2016 – 2021 has been the first critical step towards increasing children’s access to quality all-round education and enhancing the retention of the girl-child in our schools.’’

The president expressed certainty that the ministry will take care of all women-related matters by working together with state governments and international organisations.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that President Buhari had explained why he preferred placing women in charge of the economic and financial hub of the country such as the Ministry of Finance and other strategic positions.

The president on Thursday, September 12, said having women in the financial sector is to ensure effective management of limited resources available and promote a stronger sense of inclusiveness.
