- The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has summoned an emergency meeting
- The notice of the meeting was contained in a message sent to senior members of the party on Thursday, January 16
- The meeting came 24 hours after the removal of one of PDP's influential governors, Emeka Ihedioha, by the Supreme Court
The leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have summoned an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting 24 hours after the removal of the ex-Imo state governor, Emeka Ihedioha by the Supreme Court.
The notice of the meeting was contained in a message sent to senior members of the party on Thursday, January 16 by the national secretary of the PDP, Senator Umaru Ibrahim Tsauri.
“All members of the PDP NEC are hereby invited to an emergency meeting of the NEC tomorrow, Friday, 17th January 2020.
“Venue is NEC Hall, PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja. Time is 10 a.m,” Senator Tsauri informed.
Earlier in its reaction to Ihedioha's loss in Imo state, the PDP described the ruling as another sad commentary on the nation’s democratic order.
The party lamented that the people's collective destiny had been taken from the governor they chose and handed over to someone and a political party that the residents do not want.
It lamented that Ihedioha's progress as governor of Imo state is now being jeopardised as a result of the judgement.
Ihedioha himself had accused the apex court of subverting the will of the people of Imo.
In a statement made available to Legit.ng on Wednesday, January 15, the former governor stated that he was clearly elected by the people of Imo, adding that the mandate given to him by the people of the state has now been truncated and cut short by the Supreme Court.
