Governor Wike mocks traditional ruler, calls him a small boy

- The typical African culture demands respect from younger persons to their elders and traditional rulers who are in a position of cultural authority

- But it was a shock to many Nigerians when on Tuesday, January 14, Governor Nyesom Wike embarrassed some traditional rulers in Rivers

- Governor Wike went as far as calling of one of the monarchs a small and very young boy

A viral video of how Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers on Tuesday, January 14, embarrassed some traditional rulers in the state has emerged.

First, Wike, addressing the monarchs, ordered them to stand up and asked each of them to display their staff of office, claiming that they seemed not to understand the importance and significance of the object.

The governor said that the staff of office is meant to differentiate them from other men when they appear in public.

Moreover, Wike called out one of the monarchs who was shaking his head, he described his gestures as fake.

He added that the monarch used to be a small errand boy who was always around him and his friends some years ago.

Wike said: "You’d think he’s an elderly person. Very small young man… this boy. I know when I was in school, he was running around us, going on errands.

"Now he’s dressing Usman Dan Fodio (founder of Sokoto caliphate). Then he begins to breach protocol. He thinks when he’s shaking his head like this, I’d be happy. That’s fake…that’s fake ….”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Good Governance Advocacy Centre (GGAC) had said it believes Wike was being haunted by the “innocent blood" spilt during the last general elections in the state.

The group during a press conference in Abuja accused the governor of hiring political thugs to rig the ballot at the last election Rivers state.
