Liverpool talisman Roberto Firmino had to fight back his tears after getting baptized in an emotional ceremony held in his own swimming pool.

His teammate at both club and country, Alisson Becker, and midfielder Fabinho were among a host of friends who witnessed the Brazilian go through the ritual.

In a video shared by Firmino on Instagram on Wednesday, January 15, the striker can be seen walking into the pool before having his head soaked under.

"My greatest title is Your Love Jesus. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.The old things have passed away; behold, new things have come," he captioned the video in Portuguese.

And as he surfaces from the pool, he hugs his wife, Lari, with the two appearing to be overcome by emotion.

Daily Mail reports the ceremony was led by renowned Brazilian gospel singer, Isaias Saad, who was backed by a group of back up singers.

Fans went on to congratulate the Liverpool ace for the bold step, with fellow football stars also sending their support.

Meanwhile, the Brazil international has been in fine form for the Reds, scoring the only goal of the match in Liverpool's 1-0 win over Spurs.

He is expected to be back in action when the Anfield landlords take on rivals, Manchester United, in a crucial Premier League clash on Sunday, January 19.
