The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, January 15, finally handed a certificate of return to Hope Uzodinma, hours after he was declared authentic governor of Imo state.
Uzodinma of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria was declared Imo governor by the Supreme Court, which sacked Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on January 14.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Uzodinma on Wednesday, January 15, issued an order directing banks to freeze all accounts belonging to the state government with effect from January 14, 2020.
The report said that the order from Uzodinma happened before he was officially recognised by INEC as demanded by the Supreme Court.
This is coming at a time the PDP is complaining that Nigerians are at a loss as to why the Supreme Court took the decision sacking Ihedioha.
In an official reaction to the judgement, it described the development as another sad commentary on the nation’s democratic order.
The party noted that Uzodinma "came fourth in the March 9, 2019 governorship election with just 96,458 votes" and that the PDP polled 276,404 votes."
The party said it felt for the people of the state because their mandate was taken from the party and handed to someone they did not want.
It also lamented that the destinies pf the residents of the state had been taken away with the judgement of the Supreme Court.
