Amotekun has come to stay, go and sleep - Wole Soyinka blasts Malami

- Professor Wole Soyinka has replied Malami over his statement on Operation Amotekun inaugurated by the southwest governors

- Malami had on Tuesday, January 14, declared the Amotekun initiative illegal

- Soyinka, however, told the AGF that Amotekun has come to stay

Apparently dissatisfied with the statement made by the attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, over the establishment of Operation Amotekun Initiative, the Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, has reacted.

PM News reports that Soyinka declared that the establishment of Operation Amotekun by southwest governors has come to stay irrespective of its legality.

Legit.ng gathered that Soyinka said the supplementary security outfit launched in Ibadan on Thursday, January 9, came up as a result of series of meetings by the leaders of the region to curb insecurity issues that the existing security bodies have not been able to put an end to.

He made this known at the ongoing press conference at his Kongi’s Harvest Art Gallery, freedom park, Lagos, opposing Malami for declaring the security outfit illegal.

“Amotekun is a result of meetings to curb menace in the region. Some people who have been sleeping all this time, taking belated actions while villages are been wiped out are now telling us this…that people do not have the right to flush out the evil ones among them which the exiting security outfits have not been able to do.

“I think they should go back to sleep because Amotekun has come to stay,” he added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the governors from the southwestern part of Nigeria were waiting for specific reasons the attorney-general and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, declared Amotekun illegal.

It was reported that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state made the indication known in reaction to the declaration by Malami that the security outfit is illegal.
