Hope Uzodinma orders banks to freeze Imo state accounts

- The Imo state government, Hope Uzodinma, orders all financial institutions not to honour any transaction from the government of Emeka Ihedioha or his officials

- Uzodinma also tells the accountant-general of Imo state to stop all financial dealings with Ihedioha or his officials

- The Imo governor-elect asks all financial institutions and the accountant-general of Imo state to await further instructions from his office regarding financial dealings

Hope Uzodinma, the governor-elect of Imo State, has issued an order directing banks to freeze all accounts belonging to the state government with effect from January 14, 2020.

Leadership reports that the order from Uzodinma instructed all financial institutions and the accountant-general of Imo state, not to honour any transaction from the government of chief Emeka Ihedioha or his officials.

The order was made public by Chief Cosmas Iwu, the director-general, Hope Uzodinma’s Campaign Organisation in a statement.

Following the Supreme Court judgment of 14th January 2020, I am directed by His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma to take this to your authority/instruction to place a Post No Debit (PND) order on all accounts of the Imo State Government maintained in your various institutions," the statement read in part.

“You are by this letter, directed to comply and await further instructions from the office of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State.”

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has described the judgment of the Supreme Court on the appeal against the victory of former Imo state governor, Emeka Ihedioha as a well-deserved victory” to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its gubernatorial candidate, Hope Uzodinma.

The president also commended the Supreme Court for its "courage and perseverance” in the decision to return Uzodinma's mandate.

The president said that under the new administration, a new journey to build a new Imo with new energy is about to begin.

In another report, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted the ruling of the Supreme Court which, on Tuesday, January 14, dismissed the victory of Emeka Ihedioha, as governor of Imo state.

The party, in its official reaction to the judgement, which favoured Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC), recalled how Ihedioha came fourth at the poll and wondered how such a person could be declared the winner of the election.

The PDP lamented that the people's collective destiny had been taken from the governor they chose and handed over to someone and a political party that the residents do not want.
