Netizens have taken to social media to express their disappointment after Lupita Nyong'o and Jennifer Lopez were omitted from the list of Oscar Academy Awards nominations.
Fans claimed that omission of the two is an indication of the continued history of the Academy leaving out women of colour.
Legit.ng gathers that in the nomination list, only one woman of colour made it to the top for a role she was portrayed as a slave.
According to comments on Twitter, the majority expected Jennifer Lopez to be nominated for playing the same roles taken by white actors.
Many people reacted to the nominations list saying that Nyong'o, Lopez and Eddy Murphy were left out for their colour even though they are among the best.
A Twitter user identified as Beth wrote: "Lupita Nyong’o not getting a BAFTA nomination for Us is actually mad, when she easily gave us one of the best performances of the year."
According to @dykesinfilm on Twitter, leaving out Nyong'o for another actress proved that the Academy is literally a white privilege.
She wrote: "Scarlett Johansson being nominated for an oscar while Lupita Nyong'o is snubbed is literally white privilege."
Most fans are angry about Lopez being snubbed saying it is not the first time she has been left out of the awards.
Fans felt more angered with the fact that the only black woman nominated, Erivo, is portrayed as a slave in the movie, Harriet.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the nominations for the 2020 Oscar were announced, with Joker leading with 11 nominations, while The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood earned 10 nominations each.
The 2020 Oscar will honour the best films of 2019 and will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
