Oscars 2020: Joker leads with 11 nominations

- A 2019 American psychological thriller film, Joker, has bagged 11 nominations for the 2020 Oscar

- The screenplay, which was co-written by Todd Phillips and Scott Silver, is up for best picture, best director and best actor for Joaquin Phoenix, plus eight other awards

- Actors like Antonio Banderas, Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Driver and Jonathan Pryce joined Phoenix in the Best Actor category

The nominations for the 2020 Oscar have been announced, with Joker leading with 11 nominations, while The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood earned 10 nominations each.

The 2020 Oscar will honour the best films of 2019 and will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, BBC reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Joker is up for best picture, best director and best actor for Joaquin Phoenix, plus eight other awards.

Joker is also leading the British Academy Film Award nominations with 11 nods.

Other movies that were nominated for the 2020 Oscar include Ford v Ferrari, Jojo Rabbit, Little Women, Marriage Story, Parasite, among others.

In the Best Actress category, Cynthia Erivo, Scarlett Johansson, Saoirse Ronan, Charlize Theron, Renee Zellweger, were nominated.

Others who joined Phoenix in the Best Actor category include Antonio Banderas, Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Driver, Jonathan Pryce.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that on Monday, November 4, 2019, Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji’s directorial debut movie, Lionheart, was disqualified from the Oscars race.

The reason given for the disqualification was that the movie was predominantly in English.

The development was met with mixed reactions as American filmmaker, Ava DuVernay, and the film director, Genevieve Nnaji, shared their opinion on it.
