Federico Valverde tenders apology to Alvaro Morata after tackle in Super Cup

Federico Valverde has tendered an apology to Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata for his bad tackle against the Spaniard in the Super Cup final.

Alvaro Morata was on the verge of taking a shot on goal in the 115th minute (extra time) which could have resulted in a goal for Atletico Madrid.

But the 21-year-old Uruguay international made a dirty tackle against the former Chelsea star which resulted in the referee giving him a red card.

Morata was up against only Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois before being brought down.

The encounter eventually went into penalties before Real Madrid won 4-1 to lift the title.

Surprisingly, Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone failed to blame Federico Valverde for his tackle on Morata claiming that he would have done the same as well.

"I apologize to Alvaro Morata. I know it's not good what I did but I didn't have any other option.

Valverde is now likely to miss the La Liga tie between Real and Atletico at the Bernabeu on February 1 because of suspension.
